Making Duʿāʾ in Sujood during the Sunnah Prayer of Fajr
Question: Is it permissible to make duʿāʾ in sujood during the Sunnah prayer of Fajr, between the adhān and iqāmah?
Summary:
• It is permissible and recommended to make duʿāʾ in sujood during the Sunnah prayer of Fajr. • This supplication at that time combines two virtues, the virtue of the time of response (between the adhān and the iqāmah) and the virtue of the state of sujood.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, all praise is due to Allah, and may Peace and Blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
Yes, it is permissible to make duʿāʾ in sujood during the Sunnah prayer of Fajr, and in all prayers, whether obligatory or voluntary, because sujood is a place of supplication and authentic evidence proves this.
From the Sunnah:
- Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 482Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him):
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The nearest a servant comes to his Lord is when he is prostrating himself, so make supplication (in this state).
- Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 479Narrated by Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both):
"...and while prostrating yourselves be earnest in supplication, for it is fitting that your supplications should be answered."
These two hadith show the recommendation of making duʿāʾ in sujood in both obligatory and voluntary prayers.
Duʿāʾ in the Sunnah of Fajr Specifically: • It is established that the Prophet ﷺ used to pray the two rakʿahs of Fajr and keep them light, but it is not forbidden to make duʿāʾ in his sujood, as long as the supplication is legislated in sujood. • As for the time between the adhān and the iqāmah, it has been reported that duʿāʾ in it is answered. The Prophet ﷺ said,
From the Sunnah:
- Sunan Abū Dāwūd: 521, Jāmiʿ at-Tirmidhī: 212 and Authenticated by al-AlbānīNarrated by Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him):
" The supplication made between the adhan and the iqamah is not rejected."
If the worshipper combines the virtue of the time of duʿāʾ (between the adhān and the iqāmah) and the virtue of the place of duʿāʾ (sujood), it is more complete and better.
And Allah knows best.
