Answer:

In the name of Allah, all praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

This question about praying in clothes with images is frequently asked, and the answer should be based on the statements of scholars. The ruling depends on the type of image and where it is located.

It is not permissible to wear clothes that have images of living beings (such as humans or animals) if the images are clear, raised, or three-dimensional. As for praying in such clothing, the prayer is valid but sinful according to the majority of scholars unless the image is distracting or revered, in which case the prayer is disliked or even forbidden.

From the Sunnah:

  • Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 3225, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 2106aNarrated Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him):
I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying; "Angels (of Mercy) do not enter a house wherein there is a dog or a picture of a living creature (a human being or an animal).

If the image depicts a living soul (human or animal) Wearing such clothes is prohibited, based on the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ.

  • Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 5951Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both):
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Those who make these pictures will be punished on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be said to them. 'Make alive what you have created.'"

    • If the image is treated with disrespect (such as being on a rug, or very small in a hidden pocket, or its head is erased or torn), then some scholars permit it. • Images of non-living things (trees, mountains, cars, geometric shapes) there is no issue with them.

From the Scholars:

  • Ibn 'Abd al-Barr (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
“The scholars unanimously agree that whoever prays in a garment containing an image, his prayer is valid, though he is sinful for wearing it.”

Praying in clothes with a prohibited image, the prayer is valid but sinful if the person is aware of the ruling.

However, if the image: 1. Is revered or meant to beautify the garment 2. Or distracts from concentration in prayer 3.Or is placed on the chest or facing the qiblah Then the prayer may be considered disliked or even invalid according to some opinions and the Prophet ﷺ forbade praying in the presence of images. It is safer and better for a Muslim to: • Avoid wearing clothes that contain images, • Ensure that their prayer is free from anything distracting or contrary to the Sunnah.

And Allah knows best.
